Welcome to my wonderful world of fabric, yarn, beads, metal, paper and paint. And thank you for welcoming me into yours. Fiber and Mixed-media art is my passion. I love working with color and texture. These mediums allow me to explore so many options—everything is possible.
I take an unique approach to art quilting. I prefer to begin with plain white fabric which I tightly quilt and then paint with acrylic and fabric paints. I piece together my work with a wide zigzag stitch in place of a traditional seam. Instead of fabric applique, I use fabric paper (paper glued to fabric and painted) because of its rich texture. I add various embellishments, such as beads, fibers or metal, to add a touch of whimsy to my work.
I am inspired by the natural world and the beauty of creation. With each piece, I strive to bring color and cheer into the world, especially for the gray days in the Pacific Northwest. My heart sings when I learn that my work has brought a smile to a face or joy to a heart.
My work has been shown in several group shows throughout the United States. I was one of 19 invitational artists to participate in Cyber Fyber Exhibition in Columbia, South Carolina in 2009. My work has been displayed in the Quilting Arts booth at the International Quilt Festival and featured in two of their email newsletters, Embellishments. My Contrary Sunflower was part of Art Quilts XII, exhibited at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Chandler Arizona. Differences Together was featured in the Breaking Traditions 2007 Art Quilt Exhibit at the American Sewing Expo in Novi, Michigan.
I am part of “Twelve by Twelve,” an international group of fiber artists who each create 12” x 12” art quilts based on a bimonthly theme. Our book, Twelve by Twelve: The International Art Quilt Challenge, will be released next spring. Our first 144 quilts are currently touring Australia and New Zealand, and are tentatively scheduled for exhibit at the Festival of Quilts in The United Kingdom and The International Quilt Festival in Houston next year.
I am an Art-O-Mat artist, selling my work through refurbished cigarette vending machines across the country, including those located in the Whitney Museum and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
I have sold my work through Etsy, and Etsy Rain and Indie Banditas craft shows. My work is currently featured at Indie Banditas on Bainbridge Island and Madeline’s Boutique in Connecticut.
I grew up on Bainbridge Island, WA and lived in Seattle while attending the University of Washington School of Art from 1992 to 1995. I currently live and create in Poulsbo, WA.
